Chapter - I
The origin
The morning, sorry it may be too early for the usual’s like us because it’s around 4’o clock. Even the rooster was not wakened up to give a ‘cock-a-doodle’. But for the villagers, it is the perfect morning for them. The village members were getting ready to go for their farms to start the day’s work. The clouds which are responsible for yesterday’s late-night rain started to clear its way. The orange color of the sky is coming out as cloud clearing the way for the sunrise. According to the name of the village “PUDHU VIDIYAL” which means the ‘New Dawn’. Today is the start of the new cultivation schedule. They were more amused to work due to yesterday’s rainfall. As the harvest had completed last month. The preparatory work for the next cultivation such as land preparation, has finished. Seed sowing has to be done today.
This village is the perfect prototype model for the best village with the best peoples in it. The god created this place with some beautiful but the people of the village made the place look like heaven through their hard work and disciplinary action. The village was clean and tidy everywhere. The village is surrounded by nature as boundary lines. The east of the village there is a perennial stream running over the years. The stream is very steady and continuously flowing and the water of the river tastes like the coconut water. In the north, there is the channel which has been made a century before by the ancestor of the villagers to water their farms and after the channel there is the small forest where some of the animal’s residence is there. The channel is built intentionally to make a social gap between the animals and the village. Most of the animals there also the kind of non-wild animals like deer and rabbit. The forest will be just 1 mile in width and 2 miles long. But it is a kind of forest where the top of the trees covers what is inside when we see from the top. The canopy of trees top floor didn’t give permission even to the sunlight to touch the ground. This will make the people of the village to feel the forest as haunted.
As the North extends, there is a mountain range that will be feeling like the top precipice of the mountain will be up above the sky. The mountain area is still unknown by the villagers because they didn’t even go through the forest itself. They were like strangers for the mountain. The Westside is full of agriculture fields. The cultivated crops by them are millet varieties such as Kodo, pearl, ragi, etc.,
The South is open fields that have a way to connect this village with the outside rest of the world. The trees are placed approximately with equal distances between them in the open field both sides of the way. The social distancing of the trees happened naturally. The surrounding of the village is with too much natural wealth made the people of here to lead a peaceful life.
As the sun rises, the sowing process started in their respective fields and the seeds were sprinkled. The wind carries the seeds and sown in the fields. The leader of the village arrived as the process just started. He randomly talked and asked the other landlords and the workers about their personals. His name is “Arputharasan”. He was a strong person both physically and mentally. He was the tallest man in the village with a height of 7 feet. His physic itself will make others feel terrified. Through his knowledge, he is leading the village in a good way. His family was continuing to be the leader of the village as a monarchy. No one questioned them because their family graciously lead the village only. This is not alone the only reason. The important reason is the family of the village leader alone showed this place and made the families of the villagers to stay here and helped them very much century ago. This village was the family property of the village leader.
After talking to some others, he has gone to his field to check the work is properly going or not. He saw that the work is going at a good pace. He started calling a person by his name so loudly “Gunaveeraaaa….”. after the echoing of sound. The reply came from the other end of the field as he was coming. After hearing the echoed reply, the leader moved from there. He has gone under a very big neem tree that was nearby his field and taken the shadow of the tree as a temporary shelter and being there he just glanced around how the nature is and watched over the people working. He also listened to the songs of the farmers and the music composed for the songs from nature through the birds chirping and from the trees and wind. He felt a feeling of pleasance through this. While listening to all of this, Gunaveeran appeared before him. He asked about how the work was going and when it can be completed. Gunaveeran replied “No worries, the work is going at the proper pace. We will complete it by afternoon”.
The leader assumed that everything is fine, so he can go back to his home. As Gunaveeran left the place to resume the sowing process, he looked over the work for some moment and left the neem tree to stay alone again. Later, Gunaveeran completed the sowing process and he gave a sendoff to the other workers. Then, He came under the same neem tree and enjoyed the nature till the dusk. He always enjoys the nature but today, he felt something is not going well around. He left the tree and started walking in the direction of his old untidy small thatched hut. He came into the hut where water spilled here and there due to yesterday’s rainfall. He started to cook for the dinner by igniting wet firewood first which started to smell earthy musty. He finally ignited through his full effort. He finished the dinner and found a place where the water is not reached yet and lied down. He wanted to sleep but some kind of sense made him tensed. He just started sleeping unknowingly while sighting the stars between the gaps in the ceiling.
“Grandma, why are you telling me this story?” Gunaveeran questioned his grandmother. She replied with a smile “This is not a story my son, it is a real event that has been happened before hundreds of years. Please, have a belief in this story ever”. “If it is true where it has happened, did you know that good man” Gunaveeran still had many questions in the story of the magic mirror. His heart continued to asking himself many questions about the story. He admired the mirror a lot. He kept on asking some more questions to his grandmother “If it is a true story, why no one of here is ready to search for mirror or not even speaking about the mirror”. For all the questions his grandmother replied so simply “Because none of here know the complete event except our family. On the other hand, in our family many of us tried. But they have disappeared when gone in the search for this magic mirror.” His grandmother after completing this statement again left a smile.
“Gunaveera...” in a terrified voice, shaking the body of Gunaveeran tends to wake him up. Gunaveeran realized that everything that happened is just a dream of him. When he attempted to open his eyes slowly and getting his mind out of the dream, he was made to wake up by his secret lover. Her name was Kundavai. She was so pretty enough to describe. Her beauty made many young men in the village tend to marry her. If nature has an eye, it also will see her beauty without batting the eyes. Despite her gorgeous look, she possesses a heavenly heart inside her which was started to beat for Gunaveeran after his grandmother passed away before 10 years. Herself and him were friends since their childhood. Their families were not so attached after the demise of Gunaveeran mother. Kundavai father was a cousin brother of Gunaveeran mother. The families not having so much emotional attachment but these two guys from childhood had a very good bonding between them. That bonding has been developed in years and made them fall in love with each other. Kundavai was the only one in the village who made Gunaveeran not to feel like an orphan.
The volume of the Kundavai kept rising and made Gunaveeran to come conscious. He started yelling at her after seeing her face inside his hut. He asked her why she was here now and told her to leave his hut now. Before anyone seeing them together. But she said there will be no problem. She told “If any problem will be arriving, I will handle it. Just follow me. We have to go to a place immediately”. As this is a bright morning no work to do also. So, he just started to follow her. But his mind was puzzling him why this old conversation of him with his grandmother keeps on coming in his dream for a few days. Whether it is any kind of omen. Keeping the puzzling mind one side, he kept following Kundavai. After some time leaving his house, some voices were started in a boisterous tone in a distance. He keened his ears towards the voice. After some while he managed to hear that someone is yelling his name. He confused about these voices. Because they two were walking in the direction where the sound is coming and in that direction alone Kundavai house is situated. Already his brain was puzzled with the dream again now this sound made him feel that worse things going to happen………
